Agapanthus  Specialist Nursery

Pine Cottage Plants  is a small nursery overlooking the Taw valley in rural mid Devon, England. We have specialized in growing and selling  Agapanthus,  for the past twelve years, and have held  the UK National Collection since 1995.
We appeal to keen gardeners who also seek out the more unusual and rare plants.
Our garden is open to the public in the summer months.  Come and see the National Collection in pots and in our outdoor display beds.

Nursery Opening Times
We are open most of the year Mon-Sat, 10am -- 5pm but please do contact us first to check, because we are away at many shows and don't want our customers to be disappointed and find the closed sign when arriving at the nursery.

The National Collection
In our National Collection of Agapanthus we currently stock over 400 different species and cultivars. A selection of these, including many of our own new introductions, are available to buy now in our online garden shop. We also grow a range of interesting and more unusual plants, including Lapageria, Embothrium, Scadoxis, Sandersonia, Tulbaghia,  Gladiolus, Ixia,  Eucomis, Hedychium, Plectranthus, Salvia, etc.

New Display Beds at the nursery
In the spring of 2006 two new beds of deciduous cultivars were planted out in the nursery. One containing our own Pine Cottage Hybrids, the other, a general mixture.

The main objective of these new plantings is to allow the general public who visit our nursery in future years, to be able to observe the different plants growing in the ground in a garden environment, as opposed to plants in pots. There is a big difference. Here the display will give a much more accurate example of what the plants are capable of achieving in terms of flower colour, height, and flowering season. As a trial it will serve to highlight the main differences between the cultivars and establish the more garden worthy forms and hybrids. In addition it should provide a better understanding of hardiness across a wide range of agapanthus.  A third bed is planned for the evergreen cultivars. From this we are especially interested to learn more about hardiness in this more tender group and how cold winters effect flowering the following summer.

Pine Cottage Catalogue
Our current catalogue contains a descriptive list of over 400 different Agapanthus, together with details on cultivation in the open ground and in pots. In addition there is a list of other plants we offer.
